Privacy Policy

Mímir  ·  Last updated: October 31, 2026

Mímir is a camera viewer for Apple TV, iPad, and Mac that connects to ONVIF, RTSP, and Reolink cameras on your local network. This policy explains what data the app accesses and how it is used.

Data We Collect

We collect no data. Mímir has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no crash reporting or telemetry. It includes no third-party SDKs that send data anywhere. Nothing is transmitted to us or to any third party. In App Store terms: Data Not Collected.

For video playback Mímir embeds VLC, an open-source media player library. It runs inside the app, plays the streams you ask it to, and does not report anything to anyone.

What stays on your device

None of this is ever uploaded to us.

Cameras and Video

Mímir talks only to the cameras you add, on your local network (ONVIF, RTSP, and the Reolink HTTP API), or to an RTSP URL you enter yourself. Video, snapshots, PTZ commands, and recording playback travel directly between your camera and your device. We have no server, so none of our infrastructure is ever in the path.

Recordings you browse or download from a camera (for example Reolink SD card or NVR recordings) go from the camera to your device. Exports are saved wherever you choose.

iCloud Sync

Sync is optional and uses iCloud through CloudKit, in your private iCloud database. It keeps your camera list, per-camera settings, display names, tour and grid preferences, and camera credentials (username and password) in step across your own devices.

This data lives in your own iCloud account and is protected by Apple. It is accessible only to devices signed into your Apple Account, and the developer cannot access it.

You can turn sync off per device in Settings, and "Erase All Data" in Settings removes everything stored on the device.

Local Network Access

Mímir requests Local Network permission to discover cameras (via ONVIF multicast and subnet scanning) and to connect to them. The app communicates only with devices you add, or that respond to camera discovery on your own network.

Microphone

On iPad and Mac, the microphone is used for two-way audio (talkback) with supporting cameras. Audio is captured only while you hold the talk button and goes straight to the camera. It is never recorded or stored by Mímir. Permission is requested the first time you use this feature. Apple TV does not use the microphone.

Children's Privacy

Mímir does not collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes
