How it works

Built around a different idea.

Most location apps are built on your data. Mylo is built around the opposite idea — that your location is yours, and we'll share it only with exactly who you choose, when you choose to do so.

End-to-end encrypted
We see nothing — not your location, not your places, not who's in your group. Everything is encrypted on your device before it leaves. Not "encrypted in transit." Encrypted so we don't have the key. (XSalsa20-Poly1305, if you want to look it up.)
No account
No email, no phone number, no password. Your identity is a recovery seed generated on your device — save it as a QR code or write it down. No login screens, ever.
Seamless restore
Lose your phone and your groups aren't gone. On iOS, your seed syncs to iCloud Keychain. On Android, it syncs via Block Store. Switch to a new phone and Mylo restores itself — automatically on iOS, and in most cases on Android. Your recovery phrase is always there as a universal fallback.
Groups, not followers
Sharing happens inside closed groups you create. No public profile, no discoverability, no strangers. People you don't invite see nothing.
Pause anytime
Pause sharing in any group at any time — your location is gone from the server until you resume. Privacy without the drama of leaving the group.
Named places & alerts
Save places — home, school, the job site — and get notified when someone arrives or leaves. Alerts work even when the app is closed, using background geofencing on both iOS and Android.
No ads. No analytics.
Mylo includes no third-party SDKs for advertising or analytics. We have no business model that depends on your data, and we intend to keep it that way.

I have kids ranging from teenagers to young adults, and not all of them use iPhones. I wanted to know when someone was going to arrive, not where they'd been all day.

Parenting is about trust, and trust goes both ways. Location sharing done right is a convenience for everyone: the kid doesn't have to remember to text, the parent doesn't have to wonder. It's not monitoring. It's just being a family that stays connected.

We were overdue for a happy hour. I got there first, but the place we usually go was packed, so I found somewhere nearby and grabbed a table.

I texted everyone. Half of them were driving. The texts turned into phone calls, the phone calls turned into confusion, and by the time everyone found me we'd burned twenty minutes of the hour we actually had.

All I needed was for everyone to be able to see where I was.

Privacy

We can't read your location. Even if we wanted to.

Mylo uses a per-group encryption key that lives only on the devices of group members. When you invite someone, your device derives a pairwise secret from your personal keypairs and uses it to deliver the group key directly to their device — the server passes an envelope it can't open. Our servers hold only an encrypted snapshot of where you are right now, not where you have been.

Remove a member and the key rotates automatically. The organizer's device re-encrypts group data under a new key and distributes it only to remaining members. They're locked out going forward — and since we store no history, there's nothing in the past to recover either.

This isn't a privacy policy we hope you'll trust. It's a technical constraint we've built into the architecture.

What our servers see
  • Random user ID (not your name or email)
  • Random group IDs (not your group names)
  • Encrypted blobs (unreadable without your key)
  • Push notification tokens (for alerts, with encrypted payloads)
  • Timestamps (so devices know what's new)
We do not store your name, email, phone number, contacts, or any usage analytics tied to you — only anonymous, aggregate data. (An optional avatar photo you set is stored end-to-end encrypted, like everything else here.)

Mylo is free to join and free to use. A subscription only covers creating and hosting groups — so just one person, the organizer, subscribes, and everyone they invite uses Mylo completely free. No account, no paywall, no charge for joining. Ever.
